Trend-A-Day Challenge

Posted on December 21 2016

Around this time of year, we cling to our leggings, collegiate sweatshirts, and long sleeve t-shirts. This week, we challenged ourselves try a new trend each day.

Day 1: Miniskirt

We know this is a shock for Day One; it was pouring rain on the first day of our challenge. We wore our miniskirts with over-the-knee boots and a moderately chunky sweater. At the end of Day One, we were excited for the next day’s challenge.

Day 2: Novelty Knit

Push your cable knit sweaters to the side. Our buying team’s favorite sweater finds this year are mixed media and novelty. The texture adds a modern feel to a basic outfit. On Day Two, we styled our mixed media French Connection sweater with torn black jeans and Tom’s ankle boots for a subtle, “Model Off-Duty,” look.

Day 3: Monochromatic Layering

On Day Three, we started with the outer layer and worked in since we have more options for the inner layers. One look for this trend is our favorite BB Dakota Vegan leather coat in an updated neutral color, a Naked Zebra shell tank, Free People ripped black jeans and a cozy Free People scarf. After completing Day Three, we were feeling so chic, we went to Happy Hour!

Day 4: Vest

One of our favorite looks for this trend is the BB Dakota Elms Vest with the Greylin snakeprint lace-up blouse and medium wash Joe’s jeans with an unfinished hem.  At the end of Day Four, we had nearly forgotten about our leggings.

Day 5: Flared Sleeve Top

On Day Five, we challenged ourselves to wear a flared-sleeve top. One outfit we chose was a Show Me Your Mumu lace-up top with a BB Dakota vegan leather jacket, which we draped over our shoulders to show off our fun sleeves. Day Five was Friday for us, so we celebrated and went out for dinner in this outfit with ease.

Day 6: Athleisure

We took this trend on for a Saturday morning. We chose the Z Supply Weekender Pullover with torn jeans and Tom’s Desert Wedge ankle booties. This was our little way of slipping one of our beloved oversized pieces back into the challenge. This top made us feel put together because of the high slits on the sides and mini-Dolman sleeves. We styled it with a choker and bangles.

Day 7: Duck Boots

Give your feet a break with this next winter essential- duck boots. Everyone is wearing them, but you need to resist the urge to throw these fashionable, and dare we say, practical, boots on with leggings. We suggest pairing this with torn jeans and an ultra-soft sweater like we wore on our lazy Sunday. You can add a flirty touch to this outfit by wearing a bralette under your sweater.

We want you to feel inspired after this week and hope that you will continue to challenge yourself for longer than seven days. As you are getting dressed in the morning for classes, to get coffee or heading to work, try something out of your comfort zone to continue evolving your style.
